Reviews
The place was lovely, the food was divine. We ordered the set menu good for 3 to 4 and it did not disappoint. Very good proportions not too much but not too little. We went home full and happy but not feeling like we ate too much. The atmosphere was great. The staff and manager took good care of us. They checked on us and made sure everything was going great. Very accommodating (I have a toddler). The Japanese a5 beef was melt in your mouth delicious! Perfectly cooked and tasted to good. We went to Ishiya before but we were referred here due maintainance going on their kitchen. They were so good to recommend us here and accommodated us by making the booking for us. Both Ishiya and Shou Sumiyaki are hospitality champs! Would bring the family over to these places again definitely
We had an enjoyable dining experience at Shou Sumiyaki, thanks to its high-quality Japanese cuisine and inviting ambiance. The menu features creatively curated and delicious dishes. I appreciate their attention to detail, as the waitress thoughtfully provided a selection of sake cups when we ordered a bottle of hot sake. The top-notch service further enhanced the overall enjoyment of the dining experience, making it a standout destination for those seeking exceptional Japanese cuisine in the heart of Melbourne.
Went on a Tuesday evening 6-8pm with almost empty house on arrival. So easy to get a place here :)
So delicious. Got the M10 oyster blade and sashimi x9 set. Was melting in my mouth, great seasoning according to my girlfriend. Also really like the booths and a bit of fine dining atmosphere.
Only complaint is the music could be more soothing, rather than doof doof.
So great💯 food.... atmosphere so cozy.. service 200% friendly staff and we think manager is kinf and gives great service
Buffet + top up definitely worth and will sure come back❤️💯👌💯
Food:
Got the 198$ set for 3-4. I think it suits 3 I went with two female and we finished the lot.
Really solid meats and well plated. But could tell their raw pork was frozen and not completely thawed. As it was soft on the outside, stiff in the centre of the slice.
The sliced beef couldn't really tell but they weren't that thick.
Charcoal bbq, nice and hot. Quick to cook.
Salads were meh not that fresh but used sesame dressing tastes like the bottle one you buy. chicken karage was dry - was a miss.
Their deep-fried crab was not bad, comes with salad.
When asked for salt they gave table salt not rock salt to dip meat on 😂 kinda wierd but we made it work with salt bae technique pre bbq.
I think next time I'd go straight for the meats and skip their entrees because it wasn't too good. Meats were delish tho
Their watermelon juice was really dilute. Probs stay away from their juices.
Service:
Even if U book they won't reserve your table for you.
they keep taking away your plates even if food is on it.
They dont bbq your meat for u.
Really hard to get attention of waiter. Even if they next to you they won't respond to you if they're busy.
Atmosphere:
Cosy and intimate. Would recommend for date.
Lovely place to eat at - the quality of service was top tier. I spent my partner’s 30th here and we felt extremely welcome. The staff were accommodating and even though we sat beyond 2 hours of the all you can eat - they told us that we should still take our time and just enjoy the food. They also gave us desserts for the birthday! Although expensive, the service makes up for it and the atmosphere felt warm and comfortable.
The 4 people course set meal was so fulfilling. Meat was very fresh and tender. Staff gave amazing service, so polite and friendly. The seating wasn’t too comfortable, was a bit awkward getting in and out to go to the bathroom.
Food was average, not worth paying that much.
Customer service was appalling, attitude of your waitress was so bad. To add-on, she had extremely long nails it was touching the food a she carried the plates. That’s just nasty and not cute.
I don’t recommend coming here, plenty of bbq spots in Melbourne CBD that have good food and good service. Don't waste your money here.
